The weekend getaway has grown a wellness wing. Increasingly, couples book not just a hotel room but a packaged experience — massages, spa access, healthy dining, and a schedule designed to leave them more relaxed than when they arrived. Delaware's resorts, from the beaches to the countryside, have been happy to sell it.

The appeal is time as much as treatment. A wellness weekend is permission to step away, to trade the demands of ordinary life for two days of deliberate calm, and the packaging makes that permission easy to grant.

For the properties, the model is smart business. Bundling spa services with lodging raises the value of a booking and fills the midweek and off-season gaps that plague any hospitality business, smoothing out the calendar.

Cynics note that relaxation sold by the package can feel a little manufactured, scheduled down to the minute in the name of spontaneity. But for busy couples with little time and less energy to plan, an afternoon of massages that someone else arranged is its own small luxury — and an increasingly popular one.
